Car Wreck

00:08 Jul 06 2010
Times Read: 540

I spent the last few days in ICU ward of Huntsville Hospital, My 21 year old daughter Climbed into a truck with her drunk boyfriend because she was more concerned about his hurt feelings than her own safety.

Needless to say he ran them into a tree and totaled the truck, they had to cut him out and care flight them both to ER at Huntsville.

She lacerated her face, broke her wrist, and re-injured her left leg that has two titanium rods in it already from an even worse wreck she had 14 months ago, one that put her in ICU for two weeks. The laundry list from last year is a leg broken in several places with foot pointing backward, pelvis broken in six places, three broken ribs, collapsed lung, broken sternum, broken collar bone, laceration to the bone from corner of her mouth 4 inches under her chin, swollen and bruised face, bleeding on the brain in three places. the leg needed steel rod the length of the upper and lower leg with six screws.

After all that pain and work to recover, and all the time spent by every one that loves her encouraging her to get new friends who don't drink and do drugs (the reason for last years wreck) she does not seem to have learned anything from the experience.

I am so fucking mad and disappointed and scared for her that I am a complete wreck today...I don't want to go through this anymore....its too much...

I'm sorry that this bad stuff is happening to you and your family.

I hope that your daughter heals quicky, and takes heed to your suggestion of getting some real friends.

This is terrible to hear...hopefully twice is more than enough for her to learn a lesson.

Being a parent is so hard. We can handle suffering for our own bs, but our kids put us over the top. Especially when they leave us wondering, and asking, I thought we covered this, I thought you had more sense, Where did I fail to get the message across?

Not only do we suffer with our children, but we second guess ourselves, and our parenting, applying the last multiple times.

We put our son in outpatient rehab. He was drinking and doing multiple drugs. He refused to admit he might be an addict until in group counseling with other young people, they talked about repetitive bad shite happening. "If being an addict mean repeating action with a consistent negative outcome, then I'm an addict," he said.

We did some research. Seems like adolescents, teens and early twenties do better with a group of peers using the AA model.

She's 21, so less control, but worth looking into, especially if she lives at home.

My prayers and thoughts are with you. I agree the amount of pain we suffer for a loved one exceeds any we ever suffer for ourselves alone.

It's Me, Thegenie AKA therealthing.

Thank you all for your comments supporting my Family and

My brother. And yes, in real life too.

Well since we were seven anyway when his Mom married my adopted Father. We were inseparable ever since.

I am pleased to update everyone, that my brother once again is taking the high road on all this. He has recently discovered why the young man is very messed up. Turns out he doesn't have anyone, and no where to go once he gets out of the hospital. I am so proud of my brother for his wisdom and maturity, and compassion. It is true that we get better with age. Well, that is the hope anyway.

My brother will be bringing the young man into his own home while he heals. Turns out he is messed up pretty bad. My brother has required him to seek help for his alcohol and other issues. So, we shall put good energy into it and hope the fruit is sweet, and the young man actually ponies up.

My dear, I am very sorry to hear this. Hopefully both have learned a lesson, I espacially hope that your daughter has. And yes, our children can be quite frustrating at times. Just keep your head up, and think positive. You are a very special person and you taking him into your home just proves that point even more. I am hear for you as always and you know how to contact me here and otherwise if you need to talk. Please remember to take care of yourself during all of this and also, REMEMBER to SMILE :) And know that my well wishes are sent to you and your family and that I am thinking of you.
